Take a wild guess what the colours of the Portuguese flag are? Come on, you can do it. YES! Red and green they are. This Fish Seller in Olhão is clearly not only a good salesman but also a dedicated patriot. He’s got my vote for sure.

So now you have the bean clams and the heart shaped cockles, what do you do with them I hear you ask? Nemo problemo, I’ll get you a good dose of food poisoning…just kidding of course! They’re quick and easy to cook after prepping and you are going to love them.

We joined Anja and Micha in their camper van the other night for a spectacular dinner. Not only is it spectacular enough to produce a meal for four in a camper van which has (by virtue) not a lot of space, but to make such spectacular food on top of it. Chapeau, mon ami, chapeau.

This recipe falls into the totally easy and magnificently impressive section. Three ingredients, 10 minutes tops of work and you have a starter that will knock the socks off your friends. If this is a good thing or a bad thing depends entirely on the foot hygiene level of your friends…

I absolutely love fish and chips. It's one of the many reasons I love going to England, besides the obvious ones like visiting my wonderful parents, aunt and uncle of course. And spending hours in Charity shops buying other peoples junk/treasures. I started the year off with 10 DVD's which we watched at least as many times each with our wonderful students, but if I see “French Kiss” or “Kangaroo Jack” one more time, I may have to throw up for an hour or two. Now I'm at 100 or so “thanks” to them charity shops.

Seeing as I miraculously still have internet access, I am using the window of opportunity to post a second post immediately. That's more than I've managed in months! And seeing as I like the photo so much, here it is again...

I love fresh sardines and I don't think it's possible or even legal to visit Portugal without eating them at least once. We've had them grilled and fried, filleted and whole, with garlic and with garlic, and they were always good. They are normally quite easy to find and relatively cheap so give them a try right there in your own kitchen and bring a ray of Portuguese sunlight into your life!
