• Port Elizabeth and my happy brother Michael

    Willows Port Elizabeth
Finally we get to Port Elizabeth, my lovely hometown. Some foolish people say that it is a little bit boring, but these people have no idea of Port Elizabeth’s hidden treasures! Just take me and my family for example…stop laughing back there!

  • Nanaga Farmstall, Eastern Cape, South Africa

    Awesome wild boar pie
I have a confession to make – I am a closet pie addict. I adore pies, especially good ones. That may sound stupid, like duh, of course you like good ones. But pie addicts like me will also eat bad ones in the hope that they might be good. But no fear when Nanaga is near, as their pies are awesome!

  • Chinese Pearl Balls

    Uncooked Chinese Pearl Balls
I have wanted to make these for years and somehow never got round to it, which is a real shame as they are deeeelicious and easy to make to boot. There are many recipes out there for these delicious studded meatballs, but we are quite happy with my version. Try it and tell me what you think!

  • East London and wonderful Ann and Peter

    Ann and Peter with Joerg
After visiting my lovely sister, I was lucky enough to visit my lovely Aunty Ann and Uncle Peter in East London. East London South Africa, I’m talking about here, not East London, East London. I could tell you all types of interesting facts about East London (founded by John Bailie in 1836, only river port in South Africa, etc, etc), but it’s my beautiful family that makes it so beautiful!

  • The Beach Break Café, coffee shop and take-away

    Banting Burger
My divine Aunty Ann (you’ll meet her and Uncle Peter in the next post) took Joerg and I to a wonderful cafe restaurant at the beach. This place has everything going for it: the food is great, the service is great and its position is great. Oh yes, and its prices are great too. What’s not to love?!

  • Aliwal North, Cathcart and on to East London

    St Albans Church, Cathcart
After leaving my sister and family, we headed to Aliwal North where we spent the night in a lovely self-catering double story unit. The owner has Fan-tailed Doves and ducks and it was a treat to watch them fanning their tails right in front of us.

  • Cauliflower Sausage Lasagne

    Cauliflower lasagne
Joerg and I are trying to eat a low carb diet as much as possible, so I came up with this recipe and we think it’s superb! We didn’t miss the lasagne sheets at all. I used sausage instead of minced meat, well because I happened to have loads of it!!

  • Oviston at Gariep Dam and Nature Reserve

    Gariep Dam area Oviston
We continued our travels through the Northern Cape Province to Gariep Dam and Nature Reserve which borders the Free State and the Eastern Cape. It’s the beginning of November and hot as Hades. Gariep Dam Village is very beautiful, with manicured gardens and beautiful trees. Being next to a dam does sort of guarantee you water!

  • Lemon Bars

This recipe is not from me, but it is super anyway!! My lovely niece, Maya, made this for us and it is sooooooooo good. It is perfect for people on a low carb diet as it is low in carbs, duh! The photo does it no justice, but we ate it before I could take any more photos!

  • Warden, Orange Free State, my lovely sister and family

    Hayley’s Bearded Dragons
The great thing about South Africa is that I still have deevine family there and I had the opportunity to visit them this year – haven’t seen my big Sis, Patricia, in 7 years! My super nephew and his lovely wife made me feel old by making me a Great Aunt twice over…okay, so that makes me great, like you didn’t already know that!
