Die Poort, Cederberg Mountains

Die Poort
Also known as Bushmanspoort, this place is a little piece of heaven and we would quite happily have stayed there for the rest of our natural lives. It is owned and run by Manus and Erida – Erida was away, but Manus was a ray of sunshine everyday. We had planned to stay one night, but stayed 2 because it is just so wonderful.

Wuppertal, South Africa, not Germany!

The views on the way to Wuppertal
Our last hosts, the lovely Erica and Gerhard, told us about a little gem of a place called Wuppertal. We found the name alone super as there is an enormous city with the same name in Germany which has a population of about 350 000 and the SA version probably has a population of 350 tops (I’m guessing here).

Up the West Coast to Piketberg

Port Owen Marina
The West Coast of South Africa is our favourite place, probably on the planet earth, although I might have to rethink that as we haven’t been everywhere on the planet earth. Yet. I just need a bit more time…

Oh Cape Town, how beautiful you are!

Cape Town
Yes, I know it’s been a while, but what can I say, life got in the way yet again. Let’s hope I’m back to stay! We have just been fortunate enough to spend 6 weeks in South Africa – I have to say sorry to all the friends we didn’t get round to seeing, but even 6 weeks is just tooooooo short!

Where have I been the last 2 months?

Me at the beach in Littlehampton
Well, I‘ve been lucky enough to spend time in Spain, France, England and Germany in the last 2 months. One of the great pleasures with this is not only do I get to spend time with people that I like, but I also get to eat all types of great food.

My type of bottle holder!

Stiletto bottle holder
Now this is what I call a proper bottle holder. None of this „I‘m too posh for my own good“ type of a bottle holder, but a real woman type of a bottle holder. Now my stilettos have a new lease on life ahead of them seeing as I am pretty sure I won‘t be wearing them anymore. Especially not after finishing the bottle!

Getting to know Anja and Micha

Joerg, Micha & Anja
You’ve met Anja and Micha in many of my posts, but it’s about time you got to know them better as they are awesome friends and travel buddies. Their campervan/home is legendary too – it’s an old banking bus. In the “olden days” (as in 10-20 years ago, sigh), the bus would go to bank-less towns so people could do mobile banking. Who needs internet banking when you could have this?

Meet Lucy and her parents, Steffi and Olaf

Lucy with a headscarf
Isn’t Lucy just the cutest doggy in the window? She may have to take off her headscarf if she wants to go to the beach in Nice…

Meet Anouschka, Joachim, Lio and Luis

Anouschka & Joachim & kinder!
We met the deevine foursome 3 years ago and are always happy to meet up with them when we return to our much loved Portugal. You met Lio, The Driving Dog, in an earlier post http://www.acookonthefunnyside.com/content/passion-portugal and this time we spent time with Luis, The Dog Chasing Cat.

Stonehenge and my baby sister, Alison

The Stones
My wonderful baby sister, Alison, had her birthday a couple of days ago, so I thought I would tell you all about her visit to Europe a year and a half ago. Gulp, it’s taken me that long to tell you about such a lovely experience.
